Shoelace sat in the shadows, rasping her sandpapery tongue over her white pelt. Such a pity she was born a white cat! White fur showed everything, and the molly was in a constant battle to kept her pelt clean. She'd more or less given up on the fur on her hind legs.
The deputy yawned widely, then got to her feet, hopping on top a garbage bin to get a better view of her surroundings. Soon the sun would set, the Upwalkers would all return to their nests, and the city would truly belong to CityClan.

Neonstar was down on the stonepath, he paced back and forth looking for various objects like small peices of stone that broke off from the stonepath. Those two-legs must be fat to break the stone, they seriously needed to chill with their prey consumption. He found a grey little stone that had had eventually broken off from the concrete, he picked it up in his mouth and ran back to the spot where he stored his small collection of stones.
The silver tabbies ears perked when he heard a noise, he gazed up to find his mate, Shoelace. "Hey there!" He mewed smiling, his tail flicking back and forth.

She gazed down at him, her orange eyes burning in the twilight. "More stones? Really? You really think you need more stones?"
Shoelace feared that her mate's harmless little habit was becoming something of an addiction. Sure, he was good at playing bobstones, but the inherent risk in the game was enough to make any sensible cat concerned. Then again, her mate wasn't exactly a sensible cat. She loved him to death, but why old Trashstar had chosen him to follow in his pawsteps was a true mystery to her.

"Don't worry Shoelace, I'll win big soon!" The tom said optimistically. He never really won big yet, he's won smaller bets but he has yet to win big. "Don't worry sweetie, I got this, I promise if things get a liiiitlleeee outt'a hand I'mma stop, m'kay?" Neon said smiling up at her, he looked past her for a bit at the sun. He couldn't wait for those tw-legs to go sleep. Stupid, upwalking creatures, all they were good for was some scraps of food and a good scratch behind the ears every now and then.

"You've been saying that for moons," Shoelace sighed, shaking her head, "And you've hardly won anything worth mentioning."
She laid her ears back, giving her mate a concerned look, "I don't want you playing with that big black dog anymore. You're gonna get in over your head."

"I will, I will.. I got'sa plan you see, I thought about this." Neonstar mewed giving her a reassuring smile, "Calm down, Shoelace, I can win big.. I may have not done it yet, but soon." Soon, meaning never. Neonstar frowned when she mentioned the dog. "Heyy, Its fineee. I'm not gonna get over my head, I got this. A little bit of faith would be nice ya'know." The tom leaped up onto the trash can next to her. "Ehh.. How about a change of subject, eh? Likeee.. The weather."

"Faith, I have plenty of," Shoelace responded, giving a matter-of-fact wave of her tail, "But that doesn't mean common sense can be ignored."
She curled her tail around her forelegs as he settled in next to her, an ear twitching slightly. "To win big, you have to risk big," she mewed, dragging her rough tongue across his shoulder to smooth the fur there, "What happens if you lose?"

"If I lose, then its a lesson I learn." Neonstar mewed looking up at her, "We always have mistakes we learn from, right? Well.. I don't think this is a mistake.. but if it is, I'll learn and move on. You know?" Neonstar looked at her, he just really wanted everything to be happy and worryfree, it was the illusion that he always tried to live in. "Shoelace, everything will be fine, I promise."

A seal point longhair hid behind a trash can, royal blue eyes watching the two adults. He was a kit himself, barely 7 moons old. The city had treated him fairly well, very uncharacteristic of such a harsh place.
